Google Caffeine Update

Google’s new search architecture, codenamed “Caffeine” is coming online into more and more data centers. “No official statements from Google team have been made yet but the effects are very noticeable on many search data centers we query on a daily basis.” a senior developer Jake Stoneleigh at “SocialPark Media Group Inc.” mentions. You can check out Google Caffeine listings vs listings on old Google platform on this very useful website http://www.comparecaffeine.com/.

For those who are wondering what is happening with Canadian search data centers, well they are getting updated for sure. Search engine result pages are starting to show different results. “Our clients are getting better rankings on new Caffeine, it’s great!” Richard Cohen, the advertising manager from “SocialPark Media Group Inc.” admits. Richard also mentioned that data centers in Canada were updated with some new code a few days ago and that finalized update will happen by the end of the month. Google should probably make an official statement sometime in early February or before.

Google Caffeine is also taking into account much more heavier keyword weighting and the domain age has become more important then before. Other factors include website response speed, page generation time and quality of inbound links from other external websites.

The Future of Online Properties. Domains, Content, SEO and More

Remember the domain name registrations back in the 90’s. This was a begining of the golden era for the domainers i.e. people who were researching keywords and then grabbing or registering matching domain names so that they could get all that nice direct navigation traffic when people typed them into their browser. This was the also the begining of the domain registration gold rush.

After major Tier-1 search engines came online another form of marketing was born known as “Search engine traffic” or “Organic search traffic”. Companies and individuals came into existence offering search engine optimization services. Back then the search engine algorithms functioned differently so it would become relatively easy for people to game the system. However search engines evolved and became more and more sophisticated. Today we have search engines employing various strategies including personalization of search results and possibly even in not so distant future humans contributing to the overall rankings for everyone.

If you are starting online today, you are probably wondering if you can make money with some sort of online property. The answer is you can, there are still lot of opportunities to explore. Websites with some sort of content that captures the interest of the user are probably your best bet in the long term. Whatever algorithms a search engine like Google implements will not affect your online property as long as the content is something that user is interested in and needs to frequent on a daily basis. Afterall that is why bookmarks and social networks exist.

Should you venture into the domain registration and parking today. Probably not, the market is very saturated and registering a good domain name will cost you a lot of money. So if you do not have deep pockets better not dive into it. Websites with content or developed websites as online properties are much more interesting because of several factors outlined below.

1.) Low cost domain name registration
2.) Low cost associated with the content creation
3.) Once the content has been indexed you will get some traffic ( especially true for the long tail keywords )
4.) Better rankings in search engine and more traffic can be achieved with affordable offsite and onsite optimization
5.) Related content is what user is seeking, this means you will get referral traffic from social communities and other websites
6.) Visitors will come again and again, if you have content that is interesting to them, instead of seeing a lander full of ads

Monetization is also the key here as you can monetize your online property in many ways outlined below.

1.) Pay per click ads
2.) Affiliate CPA offers
3.) Direct Banner Image or Text Ad Advertising
4.) Text Link Sales ( This can get you de-indexed from the search engines, so watchout )
5.) Listing sales ( If your website is a directory type of a website )

But you can see that there are much more ways and possibilities to monetize your website then with the domain that does not have any content on it. When they say “Content is the king”, it’s not just about SEO, it’s about your online property as a whole. Nobody can predict the future outcomes, but domains with content that drive visitors, have low bounce rates and create those daily website addicts have the best chances of surviving the online wars that yet have to come.

So do your keyword and trend research accordingly, write content or hire another third party to create it for you by using your guidance and then focus your efforts on marketing the website including search engines, social communities, people. It will pay off and you will have something that can last you for a long time, an intangible asset that can be added to your portofolio and monetized in a number of ways. Remember, online content properties are your best bet for a future to come.

Small business heading towards the social media

Major social network platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and others are catching up to the traditional websites as an alternative internet advertising mechanism for small businesses. That is at least the takeaway from a a newly released survey of 2,000 small businesses by independent research firm Internet2Go. That could be bad for for companies like Adobe which have a real monopoly on major software tools that are used to build content for the websites today.

According to the survey that was conducted and ran in mid-September of 2009, it is shown that almost 45 percent of small-business owners have Twitter or Facebook accounts. That’s astounding considering that today on the internet only 44 percent of all small businesses have the actual websites and content on them. A thing to remember is that the Internet is over a decade old, but social media is in infancy being only few years old.

Coca-Cola company will send 3 bloggers to a trip around the world

Coca-Cola Co. is launching a brand new social media advertising campaign that will result in sending three chosen bloggers to more than 200 countries in single year to find out and uncover what makes people happy with their products. This is part of their “Open Happiness” campaign.

The whole Coca-Cola Co. effort, aka “Expedition 206,” shows that a big-name brand is ready to venture deep into the social media. The major campaign efforts will include blogging, trying to post updates on Twitter website and also adding videos to popular video website known as YouTube. Coca Cola Co. hopes that this will generate lot of buzz around consumers and sales. The trip around the world is quite ambitious and is involving staying in some countries for just a day or two.

The three bloggers will be chosen by online method of voting starting this Wednesday and will have to spend the entire year visiting different countries and travelling. The bloggers will be paid a salary. The company would not disclose to anyone any figures on how much the bloggers are getting. The bloggers will enjoy meeting with the local people, and also taking part in exicting events like the Winter Olympics in Vancouver of 2010.

Social Media Relations Becoming Increasingly Important

Many businesses today go and spend a lot of valuable time and money to try and reach maximum visibility. However in such a fast changing and hyper connected world it is very difficult and not enough to stand out. As we make our move to a interconnected social web it is becoming more prudent and necessary to change our old ways and PR tactics with useful and interesting online conversations engaging the right audience.

Many new studies show that more and more people are turning to the internet to try and consume resources such as latest news. TV and print audience is in the decline significantly while on the other side the Web and larger social media consumption continues to rise ahead.

According to some of the studies conducted by the Opinion Research Corporation (OPC), “The increase in online news consumption was led by disproportionately larger increases among a number of key demographics, including college-educated people (20 percent), and people with household incomes over $100,000 USD a year (23.1 percent). Adults ages 18-34 also got more news from online sources, at 22.2 percent.”

Another source of data is ComScore which currently shows that exact same trend. There is 41 percent increase in North Americans streaming and watching video content in August of 2009 than they did previously back in the 2008 for that same time period. People are tuning in to the various online sources or feeds to get the content that is of an intrest to them. Still the real question remains as to what are the companies doing to keep up with the subscriber habits? There seem to be very few corporations who get the idea, but many of companies are heading for the web blackhole if they can’t raise and sustain the proper awareness on the Web.

Can Twitter Become Part Of Online Marketing Strategy

What is Twitter? “Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets.” – wikipedia.org. Twitter marketing can be made effective but to a certain degree. It all depends on the nature of your campaign. Twitter advertising requires that lot of upfront effort be put into gathering and assembling the proper audience ( followers ) that can then be served the content which interests them. Viral content works well with Twitter followers since they are always tuned in or listening, if something comes on their radar, they will go after it.

Twitter advertising also requires great deal of time. Time spent on making yourself interesting to the world so that you could have other people following you. There are services out there that claim they can market your message to the selected audience and therefore save you time on building your own profile, but most of these services are still in the early stage or not mature enough for more demanding campaigns. Ultimately you will need to make decision whether the Tweeter works for you as part of your online advertising plan.

Effective Online Advertising

“Today’s online advertising needs to be clear and effective”, one of the SocialPark board members points out. The primary problem being that if it is not effective then it does not result in great lead conversion.

Bulk un-filtered traffic noise does not work and in majority of cases it hurts the website, brand and your marketing campaign. When we talk about efficient website traffic we usually mean clean targeted website traffic.

Today’s website traffic can come from variety of sources including search engines, online communites, social network websites, news portals and so on. In order to get clean targeted traffic to the website one must carefully architect the marketing campaign goals, examining various factors that come into the game.

In our quest for bringing effective website traffic we need to go through many issues. Who is the audience? What are the demographics? What is it that we are we trying to sell? Once these building stones or campaign building blocks have been established we may decide to engage agency or a third party entity to help us with the actual implementation.
